I went into the Sobeys Riverview store on January 16, 2021, a few minutes before closing to pick up a couple of things, which I knew would take me less than 2 minutes, as I know where everything is and I move very quickly and determinedly. A woman with short, straight, processed blond hair said in a curt tone, “We close in 5 minutes.” I quickly collected the items I needed and was on my way to the cashier, it was not quite on the hour to closing time, moving swiftly along the front of the store when the same blond woman said to me in a rude tone, “The store is now closed. You need to make your way to the cash!” There was no please, just the militant order. I got the stink eye from the few staff I passed, as well as an unpleasant attitude from the cashier. I suspect the blond woman was left in charge of the store, and the staff were unpleasant because of her example. I appreciate that there is a lot to do once the store closes, but it is not acceptable to treat agreeable customers with such discourtesy, especially from a supervisor. A courteous tone and manners go a long way in customer service. That woman should not be left in charge if she doesn’t know how to or won’t treat customers respectfully and appreciatively of their business.
