I have been coming here for quite awhile now and more-so in the last few months since rescuing a leopard gecko. Whilst coming here to pickup worms for my gecko and an axolotl I can’t help but notice the other reptiles there. I take notice to the “fancy leopard gecko” as well as the “crested gecko” mainly because they should not be sold in retail under a certain age. All 3 of these geckos I always see, are no longer than about an index fingers length, very young. They also are always hiding under reptile carpet to get closer to the UTH which I find depressing. I never see any full dishes, I also never see the crested gecko have the proper liquid supplemented diet like it is supposed to have. I’m assuming these geckos have been the same ones I see each time. I’ve never seen them shed, I do see them have bowel movements, I also noticed a chameleon who was there for awhile, bought, and possibly sent back, and now gone again. Sometimes I do talk to the employees who work in the back by the aquatics and I have not heard great things about the animals conditions they’re kept in. I fully understand that corporate has specific ideas for what these animals should be given while in your care, but I find it cruel and incorrect. I also don’t think the labels are correct by saying these are “beginner-level pets”, because although they are small, they are a lot of work. Being someone who rescued one very suddenly a few months ago, I have seen what it takes and what they really need. If I had it my way and I had room, I would consider rescuing them but I am not paying the $100 asking price and then some for a poorly cared for reptile, period. I only come to buy feeders and doing that in itself is enough of a donation from me to keep companies like this going. I didn’t realize how long this message was but I would love to speak to the manager Patrick on this and maybe give him some suggestions as to how to properly advertise these animals? I am local and do come here a decent amount and usually don’t have many issues, but this has been on my radar for awhile now and I have yet to voice my thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
