Insensitive, callous and tactless | by Miss S. on May 03, 2015
My husband passed away two weeks ago. He left behind his American bank card which I have to use to bridge groceries for me and my four kids. We always go to food basic at woodside even when my husband was still alive. I used my husband's card and it asked me to sign the receipt. I told the cashier it was my husband's card and she then said that the transaction has to be voided because my husband has to sign it. I told her my husband has passed and her reaction was "AND YOU'RE USING HIS CARD?!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" In front of my 4 kids, who by now were thinking they will not be getting their school snacks. Needless to say I was dumbfounded. I had to pick my jaw off the floor and told her "yeah, because he left us money in there". She then looked at the card again and realized it was debit and said "oh, it's debit. It's ok." No apologies. No sympathies.
