Do yourself a favour and do not take your expensive or custom Artwork to this company. I had to call them constantly for an update. Then they stated that the custom framing that I had chosen was out of stock due to Covid. So I went back into the store and selected a different frame. Finally after about a month they stated that my artwork was ready for pick up. My mom picked it up and brought it to my house and then I realized that one of the canvases was damaged pretty badly. I was shocked and confused as to why they wouldn’t have a conversation with me about this. When I went back to the store they stated that the only thing that they could do was to take pictures of the canvases and frame those. I was so upset but I didn’t have a choice so I agreed to this. Again when they stated that the pictures were ready for pick up one of the frames was the UV blocking frame that I had paid for and the other was regular glass. They finally replaced this as well. The original price they quoted was $550 which was pretty standard but I only paid half of this as it was a complete nightmare to deal with and one of the canvases was ruined. I wasn’t going to write a review but then today as I walk past the store I see that the artwork that I brought into the store to be framed was now on display for sale. Must’ve been from the photographs that their photographer took. Talk about a truly unethical company. I wish I had researched before I took my prints there. Truly disgusting company to work with
Do not trust this store with an heirloom | by Karen Abramson on Sep 26, 2020
I regret giving a very important heirloom with some value to a family friend to have the glass replaced at Coquitlam Framing & Art Centre. The 87 year old photograph of my beautiful, well dressed grandmother in the frame that her affluent father bought for her while she was attending a prestigious girls university would have garnered interest from certain collectors as there were books written about her husband and his death was controversial. It is true that my family friend somehow came to the decision during her discussion regarding the glass with the saleswoman, Lizzy, to change the frame and matting with the photographers signature. But knowing the owner had not consented, no instructions were provided to save the pieces until the owner had the chance to review the work. It seems obvious to me that any store should have the desire and foresight to allow the owner to make the decision as to whether half of the object they’ve been entrusted with should be disposed of in an antique restoration. The frame was in good condition. But moreover, it turned out that my family friend has gone there for twenty years numerous times and they have never once thrown away any of her old frames. In fact, they save every piece of matting and every scrap of fabric to return to her. They want me to believe that the only thing that has ever found it’s way to their garbage is my grandmother’s frame and that there was no reason for them to think they ought to preserve the pieces until the owner came to pick up the photograph. They have been entirely unapologetic. Do not entrust these people with anything that has traditional or historical value.
